EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Katie smiles and laughs often and has a calming presence that translates to a tranquil mood in the birth room. She will create an atmosphere where you can relax and listen to your body. She will help your partner stay calm and confident so he or she can really be helpful. Katie knows the challenges of caring for a newborn, and will help make your family's postpartum transition as joyful as possible.
As your doula, Katie will be patient, caring, and nonjudgmental about every choice you make. Katie is a mother; she has been in your shoes and can identify with your hopes and fears for birth and postpartum. As a mother of two, she knows that the choices that feel right in labor and postpartum are different for every woman, and even each pregnancy.
Katie knows this is your birth and believes you are the best judge of what is right for you and your baby. Katie will support your decisions and help you get any information you need to make choices to birth and care for your baby your way. Don't let her laid-back temperament fool you, she's no push-over. Her years of teaching middle school have taught her a few things about being assertive when she needs to be! Katie will do whatever she can to help you remember your birth and early days with your baby with peace, joy, and love.
Katie became a doula after the births of her children left her feeling strong and confident thanks to the support she received from her own doulas. She thought helping other new mothers discover their strength would make a rewarding summer job. Her commitment to supporting families as they find their way through early parenthood has continued to grow ever since.
Katie is a certified birth doula, CD(DONA) through DONA International. She was trained in 2013 and has continued her education with classes in breastfeeding support, herbal skills for women's health, and aromatherapy for pregnancy birth and postpartum. She trained as a postpartum doula with ProDoula. She also has a Master's degree in Education, so she knows a thing or two about teaching parents and parents-to-be what they need to know to care for their new baby.
Katie lives in Duluth, MN with her husband and two young boys. She is a teacher by day and does most of her doula work in the summers. Due in the Spring, Fall, or Winter? Fear not...she takes approximately one client per month during these seasons, so book early!
